Even for a person in perfect health, finding time to write can be a struggle. There are so many potential distractions - work, friends, family, housework, financial management, not to mention the siren lure of television! For someone like me, with a chronic illness that makes energy a precious and scarce resource, it's even more of a challenge. Today - Saturday - is the first time I've managed to get onto my own writing since last weekend.
To make things more challenging I'm editing - something I enjoy far less than writing. If every writing session involved putting more words on the page I'd be a happy author! Instead, I'm involved in wrestling with the text, trying to get a 3:1 ratio of positive to negative content while reducing the overall word count. Each day I manage work on the text and make a little bit of progress is a triumph. It's frustrating, but I'm pleased that I haven't given up. Although I have to admit that today I made sugared the medicine by watching TV at the same time!
